The Chief Executive Officer of Burundi Airlines, Mr. François Nibizi, accompanied by the company's entire staff, took part on Friday, 7 August 2026, in a community bamboo planting campaign along the banks of the Mutimbuzi River. The initiative aims to strengthen the protection of Melchior Ndadaye International Airport against the risk of flooding.
The activities were organized at the initiative of the Burundi Civil Aviation Authority (AACB). On this occasion, the Director General of the Authority invited all companies operating within the airport platform to join forces in a bamboo (imisuna) planting campaign along the banks of the Mutimbuzi River, with the objective of mitigating flood risks that could threaten the airport's infrastructure.
Responding positively to this call, Burundi Airlines joined other companies and institutions operating at the airport in support of this community initiative, reaffirming its commitment to environmental protection and the preservation of critical airport infrastructure.
The exercise brought together a wide range of stakeholders operating at Melchior Ndadaye International Airport, including the Burundi National Defence Force, the Burundi National Police, the Burundi Civil Aviation Authority (AACB), Burundi Airlines, other airport-based companies, as well as members of the surrounding communities.
Through its participation in this initiative, Burundi Airlines reaffirms its commitment to environmental stewardship, the protection of airport infrastructure, and close collaboration with all stakeholders in promoting a safer, more resilient, and sustainable aviation environment.
